BRUSSELS—Interel Cabinet Stewart, one of Brussels’ leading public affairs firms, has launched a dedicated external relations practice to service clients with an interest in understanding and influencing the external relations policies of the European Union.

According to managing director Benno van der Laan, “The establishment of this practice reflects both the evolving market place and the changes in the development of the EU’s external relations policies. As the Union’s sphere of influence grows and adapts, policy makers are increasingly open to hear the views of a new range of stakeholders:  non-EU governments, business and NGOs.

“At the same time, these stakeholders are increasingly looking for opportunities to engage in dialogue with the institutions in line with their policies or business objectives, whether it relates to trade, access to funding, potential agreements with the EU, enlargement or raising awareness about a particular product or issue.”

The practice consists of ICS consultants and an advisory board of European foreign policy experts including Lord Ashdown (former EU High Representative in Bosnia), Günter Burghardt (Former EU Ambassador in Washington DC) and Fraser Cameron (former European Commission advisor).
