NEW YORK, April 8—Ketchum has promoted Karen Strauss to executive vice president and global director of strategic and creative planning, a new position. The firm also appointed more than 20 professionals to serve as regional strategic and creative planners forming a global network dedicated to applying the Ketchum Planning Process to client work in each of the firm’s practice areas.

Formerly a senior vice president and director of strategic and creative development in New York, Strauss was part of the team that built the Ketchum Planning Process, a proprietary planning methodology that all Ketchum professionals apply to client business. The firm’s planning tools borrow from both the advertising and consulting businesses, and give clients and staff visual maps for defining goals, setting strategies, and delivering measurable results.

“The Ketchum Planning Process is a major, global initiative to redefine the public relations business,” said Ray Kotcher, chief executive officer. “The power of this process is to add discipline, causality, insight and a goal-orientation to a business that’s always been known for its creativity. After several months of piloting the Process, we’re seeing a real difference in the measurable impact and quality of the work we are doing with clients.”

Strauss began her career at Ketchum in its brand marketing practice, eventually running that practice in the New York office.

“Karen has been a key player in the Ketchum Planning Process – from its initial development and our initial training to its continuing evolution today,” said Lorraine Thelian, senior partner/North America.  “This appointment underscores our commitment to provide clients with leaders who have a broad range of experience in business strategy, creative development and process management.”
