WASHINGTON, D.C.—Mark Schannon, managing director of the Washington office of Ketchum, has been named to a new position as senior counselor, in which he will focus more strongly on strategic client counsel and business development. Liz McLean, who has served for two years as associate director, will succeed him as head of the office.

In his new role, Schannon will provide strategic counsel on corporate communications, public affairs, and issues and crisis communications programs. He also will focus efforts on building business, with an emphasis on expanding Ketchum’s global issues and crisis network announced last year.

A 28-year industry veteran who joined Ketchum in 1991, Schannon has handled a variety of crises, from product contamination, financial issues and personal injury lawsuits to environmental, safety and health issues. At Ketchum he has provided crisis counseling to clients such as Dow Chemical and Bridgestone/Firestone.

McLean joined Ketchum in 1999 and was named associate director in 2000. In that role, she has provided senior counsel to clients and managed the office’s practice areas as well as finance, human resources and business development. Before joining Ketchum, she served as the senior corporate communications executive at First Maryland Bancorp, Capital One Financial and Comsat. Previously, she spent more than six years at Fleishman-Hillard.
