SAN FRANCISCO—Burson-Marsteller has appointed Melissa Grigorieff Koomey as managing director and head of the firm’s West Coast healthcare practice. Koomey has more than 20 years of experience in marketing and communications and has expertise in cardiometabolic and renal therapeutic areas as well as specialty care and orphan diseases including cystic fibrosis and hemophilia.
She will be based in the firm’s San Francisco office and report to Helene Ellison, chair of the global healthcare practice. Most recently, Koomey was the Vice President of marketing, investor relations and corporate communications for FibroGen, a research-based biotechnology company, where she led commercial activity for all drug development programs.
Earlier in her career, Koomey worked as a senior associate for Burson-Marsteller’s healthcare practice where she worked on crisis communications, product launches and disease awareness programs for clients like Bristol-Myers Squibb, Genentech and Miles Pharmaceuticals.
Before joining FibroGen, Koomey was a senior director and team leader for diabetes and obesity worldwide marketing at Pfizer where she led commercial strategy for the diabetes and obesity product portfolio. Koomey also previously worked for Novartis as a product director for Lotrel.
