SAN FRANCISCO—Paul Laland, former director of corporate communications at Genentech, has joined Fleishman-Hillard to lead the agency’s West Coast life sciences team.
Laland comes to Fleishman-Hillard from Deltagen, a biopharmaceutical and genomics discovery company, where he was vice president for corporate communications. Previously he was executive vice president and head of health technology at GCI Group, and has held corporate communications positions at Genentech and Synergen.
Says Laland, “As research intensive companies today face numerous credibility and reputation issues, our goal is to provide industry-specific communications counsel that serves the needs of small and large life sciences companies, including strategic programs for science communications, advocacy and public affairs, issues management and corporate positioning as well as national and international media relations.”
Laland will work with former USA Today health and science reporter Doug Levy and a dozen other health and science communications experts in Fleishman’s seven West Coast offices in California, Oregon and Washington.
The life sciences team is part of the FH healthcare practice, which includes more than 300 counselors in 70 Fleishman-Hillard and affiliate offices worldwide.
