LONDON—Lenovo has begun a review of its communications activity in EMEA, the Holmes Report has learned.

The Chinese technology giant, whose smartphones have become increasingly popular worldwide, is understood to have issued an RFI to a handful of PR firms. The process is being led by Lenovo's procurement department.

Lenovo currently works with several agencies across Europe, including 3 Monkeys in the UK and 100zehn in Germany. Text 100 also handles corporate and technology Lenovo work across Europe.

Lenovo EMEA corporate communications director Charlotte West told the Holmes Report that the company regularly explores "potential models to improve our agency structure." However, she added that Lenovo is " not undertaking a formal agency review."

Lenovo currently ranks fifth among global smartphone makers, after acquiring and merging Motorola's mobile business. The company is also the world's largest PC vendor, and wants to increase its global PC market share.
