WASHINGTON, D.C.—Thomas Mackell has been named president and chief operating Officer of The Kamber Group, one of the country’s oldest and largest independent public affairs and strategic communications firms. Victor Kamber, who founded the company in 1980, will continue as chairman and chief executive.

“This is something I’ve wanted to do for some time so that I’ll have more time for hands-on work with clients,” said Kamber, “but it couldn’t happen until someone of Tom’s talent and experience in management and administration was available. This is an extraordinary opportunity for our firm and for all the people and organizations we work with.”

Since September 2000, Dr. Mackell has served The Kamber Group as executive vice president and senior counselor. He was previously a professor at Long Island University’s School of Health and Public Affairs and has broad experience in the maritime, transportation and steel industries. He currently serves as president of the Association of Benefit Administrators.
