NEW YORK, March 18—Magnet Communications has acquired Hauser Bragg Communications, a Chicago-based public relations firm specializing in the consumer healthcare, sports, fitness and hospitality sectors. The acquisition deepens Magnet’s presence in the consumer and healthcare areas, and strengthens its position in the Chicago market, where Kratz & Jensen has an office before becoming part of Magnet.

HBC has provided public relations services for clients including Glaxo SmithKline Consumer Healthcare, Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Crate & Barrel, Levy Restaurants, and Lettuce Entertain You. It has about 10 people, and the combined Chicago operation will have fees of around $2 million.

“The fit between Magnet and HBC is exciting,” says Magnet president David Kratz. “Like Magnet, HBC is known for using knowledge, passion and creativity to generate results for its clients. Magnet and HBC have already worked closely together on several client and marketing initiatives. We know from experience that the firms bring out the best in one another. This acquisition will improve our ability to compete not only on premier Chicago business but on national accounts as well.”

Jennifer Hauser, who founded HBC in 1993, will become a senior vice president and head of Magnet’s Chicago office. “We’re natural partners,” she says. “We’ve built our business on healthcare, hospitality and lifestyle clients—areas where Magnet also excels. And this transaction provides HBC and its clients with an incredible opportunity to be part of a worldwide network.
