MINNEAPOLIS—Martek Biosciences Corporation has retained Carmichael Lynch Spong to plan and implement a consumer public relations campaign promoting its omega-3 fatty acid, Martek DHA. The PR effort will emphasize the purity of the Martek product and the need for DHA in American diets, and will position the company to enter the ingredient brand market.
Martek Biosciences owns a patented process for developing DHA from microalgae. This process provides a more pure DHA product than the omega-3 fatty acid found in fish, which can be contaminated by water pollutants. Studies have shown the American diet to be deficient in DHA which supports heart, brain and eye development.
