WASHINGTON, D.C.—George Washington University’s masters in strategic public relations program has named Tom Martin, who previously served as chief communications officer with FedEx and ITT Industries, has joined its adjunct faculty. Martin, who currently serves as executive in residence at The College of Charleston, will teach in GW's online program and serve as a periodic guest lecturer on campus as well.
Martin will be teaching ethics in corporate and political communications. The course will be offered initially in the fall of 2009 and will focus on ethical issues and choices facing those who practice corporate communications, public affairs, public relations and related fields. Through an examination of case studies, the course will challenge students to consider both the theoretical framework and the practical realities involved in ethical decision making and counseling.
Previously this year, the masters in strategic public relations program appointed Tom Mattia, retired senior vice president of worldwide communications and public affairs at The Coca-Cola Company and Ann Collier, former vice president of communications and investor relations at Circuit City, to its adjunct faculty.
The strategic public relations program is one of three masters programs offered by GW's Graduate School of Political Management.
