CHICAGO—Robert Matha, who stepped down as principal of Matha MacDonald last summer, has joined forces with former employer Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide to create Ogilvy PR Inside, a partnership between Ogilvy and his new firms, Basics3.

The new unit will be part of Ogilvy’s corporate practice and will focus on internal communications, change management and strategy execution. It will be headed by Matha and his Basics3 partner Macy Boehm. Basics3 is a consulting group focused on leadership alignment, strategic communication and people motivation.

“Returning to Ogilvy PR to develop a new internal communications offering promises to be a very exciting opportunity,” said Matha, who left Ogilvy PR in 1998 to co-launch Matha McDonald. “We see great synergies between Ogilvy PR’s existing brand and corporate communications capabilities and what we will offer.  Our new partnership also provides our Basics3 clients access to top quality resources throughout the Ogilvy network.”

The offerings provided by the new partnership include benchmark research of existing internal communications models, message development and communications training programs for management and supervisors.  It will also focus on comprehensive change management programs that help clarify a company’s strategic direction, improve and utilize communications to support change and build mutual trust between employees and management.

“Having Bob and Macy return to Ogilvy PR to lead this offering is very exciting, and promises to significantly enhance our existing capabilities,” said Marcia Silverman, CEO, Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide.  “Bob started our employee communications offering almost ten years ago and having him back will bring new dynamism to this increasingly important area of communications.”

The addition of Ogilvy PR Inside adds to a growing global offering in the employee communications space.  WPP firm Abingdon is working with Ogilvy PR offices throughout Europe, while in Asia Pacific, the firm operates Impact Employee Communications (an Ogilvy PR Company).
