NEW YORK—The American Board of Medical Specialties has named M Booth & Associates to handle communications surrounding its new Maintenance of Certification  initiative.  The ABMS is the umbrella organization for the 24 approved medical specialty boards in the United States responsible for physician certification.

The firm’s initial charge is to develop a communications campaign that explains the value of ongoing physician certification and the MOC initiative, and positions the ABMS as an integral player in healthcare quality issues. The account will be run by Booth’s healthcare practice.

According to Stephen Miller, executive vice president of the ABMS, “Recent reports from the Institute of Medicine and others indicate that there is a need to address quality issues in the healthcare system, and we are confident that Booth will design a communications roadmap that will help us tackle these critical issues.”
