DALLAS—Texas public relations agency Michael A. Burns & Associates is opening an office in the New York City area and appointing veteran public relations executive Robert Harwood to lead the office.

According to MB&A president and CEO Michael Burns, the office, initially located in Hamden, Conn., would enable the agency to better service its existing clients. “We see an increasing need to be physically closer to Manhattan where the majority of the national consumer and business media are located. Although e-mail, overnight delivery and inexpensive teleconferencing have made transcontinental and intercontinental communications easier, there’s nothing more credible than a face-to-face meeting with reporters and analysts,” he said. “Building the media and investment community’s trust takes more than a flurry of press releases.”

Harwood was most recently a senior vice president of a New York based international executive coaching firm, where he counseled global corporations in the fields of investment management, banking, insurance, accounting, pharmaceuticals and manufacturing. Previously he held senior communications positions at Crompton Corporation, The Wackenhut Corporation and Grumman Corporation.
