LEXINGTON, MA, April 29—Tony Sapienza, who for the past three years was president of the Miller Shandwick Technologies unit of Weber Shandwick Worldwide, has formed his own firm, Topaz Partners, which will bring together senior communications counselors to provide public relations and integrated marketing advice “with a business development mindset.”
Joining Sapienza, who has led programs for Compaq Computer, Sharp Electronics, and Fukitsu, among others, will be Paula Slotkin, formerly vice president of marketing at Plaut Consulting; Lisa-Marie Cashman, formerly of Corporate Ink Communications; Jackie Crowley; Ann Dalrymple, a veteran of Honeywell and the Open Software Foundation; Jennifer Fennell and Linda Pendergast-Savage, formerly of Miller/Shandwick; and Lisa Langone and Anne-Marie Palastra, , formerly of Weber Shandwick.
“We recognized the need for a new type of communications consultancy to help companies address their PR challenges cost-effectively and with a more strategic focus, and we saw the opportunity to create a new agency environment built around smart, talented, creative people with a shared vision,” said Sapienza. “Our experience extends beyond the basics of traditional media relations and marketing communications. Clients of all sizes, at any stage of development, benefit from this strategic focus.”
Services range from media relations, integrated marketing, marketing communications, interactive communications, analyst relations, executive communications, internal communications, corporate communications, customer communications, sales/partner communications, communications-based management consulting and strategy development.
“What makes Topaz Partners different are these three business fundamentals,” says Sapienza. “Our focus on the many facets of strategic business communications; the ‘business development mindset’ that underscores our client work; and the ‘total partnership’ philosophy that guides our relationships across our team and with clients.  These partnership fundamentals underscore our focus on setting a new standard for affordable, high-quality service, providing the counsel and support of much larger firms at a price-point normally associated with freelancers and independent contractors.”
Clients currently include Angel Strategies, a service organization for angel investors and entrepreneurs; Candeos, a provider of e-learning solutions for continuing professional educations; Ethos Technology, a developer of patented digital delivery technology; Mediation Advantage Services, a law/social services practice specializing in mediated divorce counsel; Members Mortgage, a provider of mortgage services and products to the credit union community; Por Cristo, a non-profit medical services organization in the field of international health; Spry Technologies, which delivers e-commerce solutions to the aerospace, automotive, telecommunications and manufacturing industries; and Touch International, a provider of touch screens for technology driven and consumer applications.
The name Topaz evolved from the firm’s Total Partnership philosophy.
