MILAN, October 16— Manning Selvage & Lee has acquired Italian agency Chiappe Bollodi, one of the largest independent firms in Italy. The firm will be merged into MS&L’s existing Italian operation, Mavellia/MS&L, to create a firm with 52 people and revenues of more than $5 million—enough to put the agency in the top five in the market.
The merger brings together one of Italy’s oldest established PR firms—Chiappe Bollodi founder Aldo Chiappe has been described as “the Harold Burson of Italian PR”—with one of its new leaders, and makes Italy one of the key markets in the MS&L European network: it ranks higher there than it does in any other market.
“Enhancing MS&L’s position in Italy is an integral element of the firm’s long-term plan to strategically grow key geographies and create a comprehensive European network,” says agency president Lou Capozzi. “Mavellia/MS&L and Chiappe Bellodi share a superior reputation in the marketplace and together will offer our clients the highest level of service and expertise.”
The new firm will offer communications counseling in key areas including corporate, finance, technology, healthcare and consumer marketing. The senior leadership of MS&L Mavellia Bellodi includes Adriana Mavellia as chief executive officer, Guido Bellodi as managing director and Agnese Manassi, currently a partner in Mavellia/MS&L, as chief financial officer.
“Our competitive advantage is that we have similar cultures steeped in a commitment to ethical behavior, transparency and a respect for clients,” says Bellodi.  “Working together, we will manage the integration of our firms and focus on our growth at the national and international level.”
In a separate announcement, MS&L has named Charlotte Ersboell as European healthcare director and practice leader for the healthcare group at MS&L/London. She joins MS&L from Burson-Marsteller where she was the leader of the Nordic healthcare practice, and will report directly to Ann Moravick, managing director of MS&L Global Health and MS&L/London.
During her 12-year tenure at Burson-Marsteller, Ersboell worked on high-profile healthcare accounts including Gambro Renal Products, Novo Nordisk, Roche, Pharmacia, Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca.  In her most recent position, she led teams in Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
“Charlotte has extensive experience conducting European-based international public relations programs for major pharmaceutical and healthcare organizations,” says Moravick.  “She is a truly ‘global’ professional with a deep understanding of how to collaborate with multi-cultural teams and clients.”
