NEW YORK, March 6—Manning, Selvage & Lee’s global technology practice has launched MS&L BioIT, a new specialized group focused on delivering media relations, corporate communications and branding services for technology companies focused in the life sciences arena. Several technology specialist firms, including Waggener Edstrom and FitzGerald Communications, launched life sciences groups in 2001.

“The revolution sparked by the mapping of the human genome will have profound effects for years to come, but one of the greatest challenges immediately for life sciences researchers is how to store, manage, integrate and share huge amounts of new genomic and proteomic data,” says Virginia Cartwright, managing director of MS&L Global Technology.  “Our focus will be to help IT companies position themselves at the forefront of meeting that challenge.”

Debra Goldfarb, group vice president of worldwide BioIT research at technology analyst IDC, will serve as an advisor to MS&L’s BioIT group, providing consulting services and helping with strategic counsel and direction.

“There is a lack of knowledge and experience surrounding the infrastructure requirements to support current and future bioscience workloads,” Goldfarb says. “Companies in the bioinformatics market need to articulate their own unique value in the marketplace. This is particularly challenging due to the rapid growth of informatics-based organizations as well as the complexity of the emerging technology base.  MS&L has demonstrated its ability to help bioinformatics companies communicate in a clear and compelling way.”

Clients will also benefit from the agency’s partnership with IDG World Expo—which this year launches BioITWorld Conference & Expo—which will provide access to industry analysts, research and conference resources.
