ARLINGTON, VA—Publicis Groupe has acquired corporate communications and issues management firm The McGinn Group, strengthening the public affairs and Washington, D.C., area operations of its Manning Selvage & Lee operation and further strengthening MS&L’s relationship with client General Motors, which also works with McGinn.
The McGinn Group, led by Dan McGinn (who sold his first firm, Ryan McGinn, to GolinHarris in 1998), specializes in corporate affairs, risk and litigation communications, issues advocacy and crisis management and handles complex litigation, product, employment, environmental and intellectual property issues. Clients have included GM, First Data, Symantec, Pacific Gas & Electric and ChoicePoint.
The firm will be re-named McGinn MS&L and will give Manning more critical mass in the nation’s capital, where the firm has long been undersized in comparison to its peers and where it has previously been best known for its work in the healthcare sector. McGinn will also add strength to MS&L’s corporate and public affairs practices and to its research capabilities.
Says Mark Hass, global CEO of MS&L: “I’ve worked with Dan McGinn and his team for several years, and having first-hand knowledge of their talent, expertise and approach makes this an extremely appealing partnership. We also have very ambitious plans to build our corporate communications and crisis and issues management capabilities. The addition of The McGinn Group to the MS&L network brings us much closer to fulfilling these goals.”
Hass sold his own firm, Hass Associates—which also counted General Motors among its largest clients—to Manning Selvage & Lee in 2002.
According to McGinn: “I was initially attracted to MS&L because of its global reach, commitment to clients and passion for innovation. The talent, culture and core values of The McGinn Group are complementary in a way that makes this the right decision for our long-standing clients and talented team.”
