SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO—Exelixis, a genomics based drug company, has Jane Green vice president of corporate communications, responsible for all external and internal communications.

Green joins Exelixis from Caliper Technologies where she was senior director of corporate communications, where she coordinated Caliper’s initial public offering in 1999, and built a communications function that supported the company through its transition to a commercial entity. Prior to joining Caliper, she directed corporate communications and investor relations for Isis Pharmaceuticals and held several positions with Rhone-Poulenc Rorer (now Aventis).

According to president and CEO George Scangos, “Jane joins Exelixis at an exciting time, as we progress toward becoming a fully-integrated drug development company. With her extensive experience in the biopharmaceutical marketplace, Jane will bring additional strength and leadership to our communications strategies, enhancing our focus on defining Exelixis’ unique investment potential as we continue discovering and developing important new medicines.”

Joining Mountain View-based Caliper to replace Green is Julianna Wood, who will be responsible for all external communications, including investor and media relations, and will report to Jim Knighton, executive vice president and chief financial officer. Caliper’s technology enables experiments that ordinarily require laboratories full of equipment and people to be conducted on a chip small enough to fit in the palm of a child’s hand.

“Communicating with investors worldwide is an important priority for Caliper,” says Knighton.  “Julie’s extensive experience, as well as her detailed knowledge of the healthcare sector, makes her ideally suited for this position.” Wood was previously senior director of corporate communications at Sangamo BioSciences, and served in a similar capacity at Chiron Corporation.”
