RALEIGH, NC—French/West/Vaughan  has been retained by AccuSport International to provide national media relations and trade show support for the launch of the company’s newest product. AccuSport is a leading developer and marketer of golf swing launch monitors and is best known for its Vector Launch System, which measures and analyzes launch angle, ball speed, backspin, sidespin and side angle to measure the performance of both player and equipment.

NEW YORK—Manning Selvage & Lee has named Brett Carrey as a senior vice president in its consumer marketing practice. Carrey will initially lead the Philips account and play a major role in other key projects and new business development. In 2006, he will help extend the Philips Lighting Company’s “Sense and Simplicity” positioning in the consumer and professional marketplace. Most recently Carrey was a director in the brand marketing practice at Burson-Marsteller.

ST. LOUIS—Standing Partnership has welcomed four new clients, including brokerage firm Scottrade, for which TSP will provide media expertise; MySci Van Project, a traveling science program funded by Monsanto that calls on TSP for community relations and publicity; architectural firm Christner, for media expertise; and Westminster College, which has asked TSP to facilitate and execute high-profile events to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Sir Winston Churchill’s “Iron Curtain” address.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Tony Fratto has been appointed assistant secretary for public affairs at the Department of the Treasury. Fratto will be the lead representative of the Treasury and Treasury secretary John Snow in dealing with the press, business, professional trade groups, consumer organizations and the general public. Fratto joined the Department in March 2001 as a public affairs specialist and was most recently deputy assistant secretary for public affairs.

MINNEAPOLIS—Carmichael Lynch Spong has promoted Grete Krohn to senior counselor and Sara Hammerstad to junior designer. Krohn joined CLS in 2001 as a counselor and has provided public relations counsel for the firm’s food and beverage, home and garden and healthcare practices. Prior to joining CLS, she worked in the Minneapolis offices of Bozell Kamstra and Karwoski & Courage public relations.

MADISON, NJ—Communications Strategies has been named agency of record by Cord Blood Registry, to handle consumer and professional educational outreach for family cord blood banking. The firm was selected for its in-depth women’s health experience, as well as its OB/GYN and pediatric experience.
