Burson-Marsteller has named Perla Copernik director in its U.S. healthcare practice. Copernik will initially be based in New York but will later move to the firm’s Miami office.

NEW YORK—Burson-Marsteller has named Perla Copernik director in its U.S. healthcare practice. Copernik will initially be based in New York but will later move to the firm’s Miami office. Prior to joining Burson-Marsteller, Copernik was a global public relations director for Wyeth Pharmaceuticals where she led several global product launches including Prevnar/Prevenar, a conjugate polysaccharide vaccine designed to protect infants and toddlers against invasive pneumoccocal disease.

LOS ANGELES—Rogers & Associates has been reappointed to handle public relations for the First 5 California account, a $21 million state contract recently put up for competitive rebid. Leveraging the firm’s Latino Strategies Group and partnering with ethnic subcontractors IW Group, BaumanCurry & Co. and other experts, Rogers won the new three-year contract to develop, expand and implement public relations programs for First 5 California, a state agency focused on the needs of children 0-5 years old.

VALENCIA, CA—AuctionCities.com, an online auction site, has appointed Jack Scanlan as its new director of corporate communications. Prior to joining AuctionCities.com, his career included senior management and marketing positions with the motion picture industry with Columbia Pictures, Cannon Films and 21st Century Pictures.  He also has experience managing the publicity efforts of a number of start-ups and developing companies in technology and other industries.

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ—The MWW Group has promoted of Don McIver to chief operating officer. McIver has been with the firm since 1999 and previously headed MWW’s human resources function. Prior to joining MWW, McIver spent more than 11 years working in human resources for ISO, Inc., a leading provider of information services for property and casualty insurance companies.

STAMFORD, CT—Spencer Stuart, the privately held executive search firm, has hired public relations and corporate communications veteran George Jamison, who will focus on the recruitment of senior corporate communications executives. Jamison joined Spencer Stuart from United Technologies Corporation, where, as vice president of communications, he led the company’s advertising, media relations, internal communications, publications, community relations and charitable giving activities. ’

SYDNEY—Howorth Communications, an Ogilvy PR Worldwide Company, has named Kieran Moore and Graham White joint managing directors. Mike Howorth, who has been managing director of the company for the last seven years, will remain a director of the company and takes on the new role of chairman.
