SAN DIEGO—Veteran newspaperman Tom York, most recently editor of the San Diego Business Journal, is relaunching his marketing and media practice under the name Tom York Public Relations. The firm will specialize in media relations, focusing on story placements, as well as on increasing client visibility on the Internet.

“As print continues to downsize and reorganize, the Internet becomes an increasingly important medium for client messaging to potential customers,” says York. “Indeed, the Internet has arrived, particularly now that social networking has shifted into the corporate suite. On online presence is mandatory to succeed in business.”

York will also provide OpEd and guest commentary writing services, specializing in executive-level writing on issues of economic, social and political importance.

From 1997 to 2006, York was principal of his own agency in Silicon Valley and San Francisco, representing a wide variety of clients, ranging from large publicly traded corporations to technology startups. He has served as the editor of two weekly business periodicals: the San Jose Silicon Valley Business Journal, and the Baltimore, Md., Business Journal. Earlier, he was San Francisco bureau chief for U.S. News & World Report and managing editor of two suburban newspapers.
