Ogilvy Bags Lucrative European Environment Assignment

The European Commission’s Directorate-General for the Environment has awarded its strategic comms business, worth as much as 2.5 million euros a year, to Ogilvy Group Belgium following a competitive tender.

BRUSSELS: The European Commission’s Directorate-General for the Environment has awarded its strategic comms business, worth as much as 2.5 million euros a year, to Ogilvy Group Belgium following a competitive tender.

The business will be led by Ogilvy PR Brussels, and follows a major biodiversity campaign that the agency handled for  the European Commission earlier this year.

Ogilvy PR Brussels will work with the group’s advertising arm, Ogilvy & Mather, along with other resources from its regional network in Europe. The contract is renewable twice for a total period of three years.

The  ‘framework contract’ for the assignment covers the development of campaign strategy, creative work, graphic design, AV and online production, PR and social media.

The account will be headed by Ogilvy PR Brussels executive Laure Van Hauwert, and will commence with a campaign about resource efficiency - a central theme for DG Environment in 2011. The intiative will aim to encourage European citizens to change their behaviour in favour of more sustainable choices, and will launch in autumn next year.

Ogilvy PR’s environmental and CSR credentials in Europe have seen particular growth in recent years, thanks in part to the 2009 launch of OgilvyEarth. The practice is headed by Brussels MD Jeff Chertack, and has overseen such work as the Hopenhagen campaign and assignments for SHV/Calor Gas, Genencor and WWF Belgium.

“This win is also in line with our experience with environmental communications, and the strength of the Ogilvy network across Europe”, said Chertack. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with the European Commission to create communications that engage citizens and result in attitude and behaviour change towards the environment.”
