MINNEAPOLIS—Kim Olson has been named vice president and chief communications officer for Carlson Companies, parent to travel and leisure brands such as Radisson, Regent International, TGI Friday’s restaurants, and Country Inns & Suites, and one of the largest privately-held companies in the United States.
The position is a new one at Carlson, says chair and chief executive officer Marilyn Carlson Nelson, who adds: “The appointment of a Chief Communications Officer for our enterprise reflects our continuing transformation to a more integrated operating company. Kim’s brand expertise and PR agency background make her perfectly suited to step into this historic role.”
Olson, who was most recently director of brand public relations at General Mills, will join Carlson’s executive committee and will report to Nelson. She will be responsible for positioning the company and its brands to all stakeholders, including media, government, customers, employees, and the community. She will be responsible for internal and external communications, and for global public relations activities.
At General Mills, Olson led all brand public relations efforts, managing new Wheaties box introductions as well as the annual Pillsbury Bake-off competition. Prior to General Mills, Olson headed global client services for Weber Shandwick Public Relations.
