LONDON—Weber Shandwick has hired Ben Padfield, currently head of Hill & Knowlton’s technology and innovation business and formerly head of its U.K. consumer practice, as chief innovation officer, EMEA. He will report to U.K. and EMEA CEO Colin Byrne and be a member of Weber Shandwick’s European senior management team.
The innovation business, led by Padfield and supported by talent from other Weber Shandwick practices, geographical markets and peripheral industries, will create a new model in response to the way audiences, marketing communications and the world are changing.
Starting as a financial futures trader in the City, Padfield moved into PR with Freud Communications. In 2000 he left to set up an integrated media, marketing and IP agency which he jointly ran for four years. In 2004, he rejoined the big agency world at GCI where he built the sponsorship and sports marketing business. Following the acquisition of GCI by WPP, he moved across to Hill & Knowlton in 2007 to build the mobile, media and entertainment business, before being named head of consumer PR in 2009.
