LOS ANGELES, July 26—After a pitch involving more than 20 firms, XM Satellite Radio has selected PainePR as its national public relations agency to support its service launch later this summer. XM will offer up to 100 channels of digital-quality sound and provide coast-to-coast coverage of music, news, sports, talk, comedy and children's programming.

The account will be based in PainePR’s Los Angeles office, headed by Daryl McCullough, senior vice president and general manager, with additional support provided by the firm’s New York office, headed by GM Paul Wood.

According to XM Radio vice president of corporate affairs Chance Patterson, “We’re excited to launch a new era of radio and we recognize that a key to our success will be reaching as many consumers as quickly and as effectively as possible. Doing that will require that we  leverage creative communications strategies to excite and educate consumers, and PainePR brings the powerful combination of relevant consumer experience as agency of record for DirecTV and a proven track record for the kind of creativity and innovation we need to reach our national audience and to motivate consumers.”
