Parisi to Head F-H in Twin Cities as Barkelew Steps Down

Ann Barkelew will step down as head of the Minneapolis office of F-H, handing over the reins to Frank Parisi, most recently senior vice president and chief communications officer for the Star Tribune Company.

MINNEAPOLIS, August 16—In July of 1996, Ann Barkelew quit the corporate world that had been her home for a dozen years (two dozen if you count her time as a public relations professional in the educational realm) to try her hand at the agency business, launching a Minneapolis office for Fleishman-Hillard. Today that office has a staff of 38, revenues of $6.5 million, and is one of the ten largest in Fleishman’s worldwide network.

And next month Barkelew will step down, handing over the reins to Frank Parisi, and will become a senior counselor to the agency. Parisi, like Barkelew, has no agency track record, but he does have a wealth of experience on the corporate side, having worked at several of the largest companies in the Midwest, and most recently as senior vice president and chief communications officer for the Star Tribune Company.

Parisi joined Cowles Media Company as vice president of communications and corporate relations in 1995, and assumed his current position following the 1998 merger of Cowles and McClatchy Newspapers. Parisi also has chaired The Star Tribune Foundation since 1995. Previously, he was vice president of communications at Cray Research and held similar corporate communications positions with United Technologies Corporation, Getty Oil Company and Trans World Airlines.

According to F-H chairman and CEO John Graham, Parisi “will be leading a team of committed professionals that has made our Twin Cities office one of the most successful in our system. His wealth of experience gives him an invaluable perspective on the issues our clients face every day.”

The Twin Cities office practice areas are led by senior vice presidents Sue Sorensen Lee, Becky Bailey, Jon Austin, Kathy Crandall and Laura Anders. Its clients include Imation, Schwan’s Consumer Brands, Hormel Foods, UnitedHealthcare and UnitedHealth Group, Mesaba Airlines, Iams/Eukanuba, 8th Continent, Conseco, Churchill Companies.
