CHICAGO—Larry Parnell, former head of corporate relations for Barrick Gold and director of global public relations for Ernst & Young, has been named partner at Beacon Advisors, a senior level strategic corporate, investor relations and crisis communication consulting firm.

Parnell will establish Beacon’s presence in the Washington, D.C., area, and joins the firm having spent the last two and a half years in the Toronto office of Hill & Knowlton, where he was most recently vice president and leader of the corporate and financial group.

Separately, Beacon will open a sixth office in Cincinnati, Ohio, during the second quarter of 2007.  Managing partner Hud Englehart will spearhead the development of business in the region, which is headquarters to many large corporations. Beacon also has offices in New York, Chicago, Denver, and Los Angeles.

Parnell adds experience in the aerospace, banking and financial services, food, gaming, government, hospitality, research, telecommunications and transportation sectors. At H&K Canada, Parnell served as lead financial communications consultant on several of the largest corporate transactions in Canada over the past two years.  Before he joined the agency, he was responsible for investor relations, corporate communications and community relations at Barrick Gold Corporation, the world’s largest gold mining company, and was director of global public relations for Ernst & Young.
