NEW YORK—Luca Penati has joined Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide as managing director of the firm’s global technology practice. Previously, Penati served as executive vice president/general manager of technology in the Silicon Valley office of Edelman.

He replaces Steven Jones, who left Ogilvy this summer to head the global Nintendo account at GolinHarris.

“Luca brings a significant amount of industry experience and expertise to Ogilvy PR’s global technology practice,” says Marcia Silverman, chief executive officer of Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide. “The breadth and depth of his knowledge enables Luca to quickly evaluate and understand the communications needs of any technology company operating in today’s global marketplace.”

A 20-year industry veteran, Penati has experience providing strategic communications counsel across multiple industries, including enterprise software, consumer technology, wireless computing, networking and semiconductors. He has worked with key industry players such as Apple, Samsung, Veritas Software and the Wi-Fi Alliance.

Prior to moving to the Silicon Valley in 1998, Penati spent 13 years working in Europe executing PR programs for leading technology companies including 3Com, Ericsson, EDS, Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft and Texas Instruments.

In his new role at Ogilvy PR, Penati will focus on client and new business development across the agency’s global technology practice. He will be based in San Francisco and will report to Silverman.
