NEW YORK, September 3—Seeking to add depth to its senior management team, business-to-business public relations specialist PepperCom has named 20-year public relations veteran Ann Barlow as senior director.

In some ways, Barlow will be a replacement for Pete Harris, who left the firm in July to take over as general manager of the New York office of Access Communications, but agency president Steve Cody stressed that she would also play a role in the management of the firm’s business operations—including responsibility for its San Francisco office.

“One of the upsides of a weak economy is that there are a tremendous number of talented people available,” says Cody. “We were able to bring in someone with 20 years of experience on both the agency and corporate sides of the business, someone who has run her own business, who understands both how to work with clients and how to manage a P&L.”

Barlow will be responsible for implementing PepperCom’s strategic planning, corporate and product positioning, strategic partnerships and special events planning for a range of technology, financial and professional services accounts.

Prior to joining PepperCom, Barlow worked at Interpublic’s Mindstorm Communications (formerly part of Weber Worldwide), where she served as senior vice president/general manager for the New York office, and worked with clients such as Sony, Screaming Media, Cablevision and Vaultus. She began her communications career at Waring & LaRosa, and has worked for GCI Group and Berry Associates, as well as serving as public relations director for Overlook, a $200 million health system.
