RICHMOND, VA—GE Financial has named Jean Peters to the newly created role of senior vice president, investor relations and corporate communications for Genworth Financial, which is slated to complete its initial public offering in the first half of this year. Peters will report directly to chairman, president and CEO Michael Fraizer and will have responsibility for global communications to investors, rating agencies and the media.
Last month, Genworth selected FD International to handle communications surrounding its spin off. Peppercom had previously handled corporate PR for GE Financial.
Peters comes to Genworth after serving as senior vice president of investor relations for John Hancock Financial Services, where she led investor communications programs for several important transactions—including John Hancock’s initial public offering in 2000, and its subsequent merger with Manulife Financial completed last month.
“We’re thrilled to have Jean as part of our senior management team,” said Fraizer. “As we prepare to become an independent, public company, having someone as knowledgeable and respected as Jean positions us effectively to communicate with the investment community and other external constituent groups.”
Prior to John Hancock, Peters held similar positions at Allmerica Financial Corporation and Capital Holding Company. She also worked as a journalist for several newspapers earlier in her career.
