COLUMBUS, July 19—Electricity deregulation has some image issues following the well-publicized California energy crises, but other states are pushing ahead and this week the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) selected Pierce Communications to handle public relations for the Ohio Electric Choice consumer education campaign.

PUCO is working in partnership with the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel (OCC) and the state’s local electric utilities, to conduct a consumer education program that will inform consumers about their electric choices. The Ohio Electric Choice campaign is entering its second year and is focusing on territory-specific campaigns.

In a statement, the three groups said, “Pierce not only has a comprehensive knowledge of the issue’s history, but a strong familiarity with the stakeholders and the current issues challenging the campaign. Its plan details realistic goals, presents practical strategies and provides a credible and sound means to evaluate the program.”

Edward Howard & Company was a finalist for the business.
