LONDON, August 22—Porter Novelli International is expanding its Eastern European operations by selecting Latvian public relations consultancy DDB&Co to form DDB Porter Novelli. The move comes less than a month after Porter Novelli announced an expansion of its Russian PR affiliates.

“Merging into the Porter Novelli network is in line with our goal to maintain our position among the leading Latvian public relations companies,” said Aigars Nords, director of DDB&Co. “The membership benefits of a leading global network will not only ensure growth for us, but will also encourage the growth of the Latvian public relations market in general.

“By the end of 2002, we plan to introduce several new services into the Latvian market, putting Latvian public relations on an international playing field.”

Neil Backwith, CEO of Porter Novelli’s EMEA region, says the partnership with DDB&Co. reflected the firm’s strategy of combining the best local market expertise with the strength of an international network. “Within Central and Eastern Europe, Latvia is one of the top three target countries attracting foreign investment. This, coupled with strong industry sectors such as food and drink, logistics and transportation, and technology, make it a logical choice for us to base our reach into the Baltic States.”

DDB&Co has expertise in the consumer, financial services, healthcare and technology sectors. Clients include the Latvian Ministry of Welfare, World Bank, Wyeth, Nordea Group, national telecom carrier Lattelekom, and the Latvian Olympic Committee.
