CHICAGO, January 31—Global energy provider TXU has selected Porter Novelli as its public relations agency of record to develop and implement a full-service strategic public relations program. The firm’s Chicago office will lead activities with support from New York, Austin, Texas, and Ft. Lauderdale.

Porter Novelli—which has handled project work for the company in the past—won out over fellow-finalists Fleishman-Hillard, GCI/Read-Poland, Golin/Harris International, and Publicis Dialog for the account, which is believed to be worth between $1.5 and $2 million.

The nation’s largest competitive energy retailer, TXU is expanding its marketing communications capabilities and plans to raise awareness through a national corporate visibility and media relations program. Porter Novelli will also provide strategic counsel to support TXU’s philanthropic efforts, and expand and extend its consumer marketing programs related to issues of deregulation.

“Porter Novelli has a proven track record with TXU Energy,” says Susan Atteridge, executive vice president of global communications at TXU. “Our experience with PN in consumer marketing and deregulation, combined with its capabilities in corporate public relations, readily convinced us that PN is the right partner for TXU.”
