NEW YORK— Stuart Zakim has joined American Media, publisher of titles including the National Enquirer, the Star, and Men’s Fitness, as senior vice president of corporate communications, reporting to president David Pecker. Richard Valvo, AMI’s previous spokesperson, will become a corporate vice president developing special projects and also reporting to Pecker.
Zakim will be responsible for creating communications strategies that will be utilized in raising the profile of AMI’s vast properties; these include the national roll-out of the redesigned Star Magazine, which was launched last week in New York and Los Angeles; AMI’s consumer magazine division, which consists of magazines that include Shape, Men’s Fitness, Muscle & Fitness, Natural Health and Country Weekly; AMI’s tabloid division, which includes The National Enquirer, Globe, Examiner, Sun and World Weekly News; its Latino magazine group; and AMI’s other properties, including single subject mini-mags and digests, AMI Books, and Distribution Services, an in-store magazine merchandising company.
Zakim has over 25 years of publishing and entertainment PR experience. Prior to AMI, he was chief liaison/corporate communications officer at Wenner Media, Corporate vice president of promotion for Playboy Enterprises, and held executive positions with Universal Pictures and Columbia Pictures.
