WASHINGTON, D.C.—Hill & Knowlton has named Gene Reineke general manager of its Washington, D.C. operations. Reineke, who has led the firm’s Chicago office for more than five years, will retain his responsibility as chief operating officer for Hill & Knowlton USA and will continue to serve on its U.S. executive committee.

He replaces Alisa Fogelman-Beyer, who was named to head H&K’s D.C. operations after the WPP-owned company acquired her Promarc Agency two years ago. Fogelman-Beyer stepped down to focus on family matters.

“Gene’s considerable public affairs background and his tenure with Hill & Knowlton make him the ideal candidate to fill the critical position of running our office and growing our business in the nation’s capital,” said MaryLee Sachs, president and CEO of Hill & Knowlton USA.

While running H&K Chicago, Reineke has counseled clients including American Airlines, AT&T, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Illinois, the Illinois State Lottery, Navistar International, Chicago’s O’Hare Airport in crisis communications, community and government relations.  Prior to joining H&K he was chief of staff to former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar (R-IL) from 1994 to 1998

The firm is actively seeking to fill the Chicago general manager position.
