NEW YORK—Bob Seltzer, former chief executive of Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide, has been named leader of a new marketing practice at Ruder Finn. Seltzer brings nearly 25 years of experience to Ruder Finn and will help the agency increase its market share among major brands through strategic marketing initiatives in consumer, consumer health and the overall business-to-business arena.
Seltzer’s “strategic insight, hands-on expertise in broad scale marketing programs and his network of contacts has added a strong player to our team,” says Kathy Bloomgarden, co-CEO of Ruder-Finn. “Bob’s perspective on serving clients is a great fit with the Ruder Finn culture.”
Seltzer was CEO of Ogilvy PR Worldwide for more than five years, and prior to that headed Porter Novelli’s New York office and founded the firm’s healthcare practice. His marketing experience includes work for well-known brands including Coca-Cola, Kellogg, Gillette, Johnson & Johnson, Ford and Bayer.
“There is no doubt that someone of Bob’s caliber will provide us with more of the ‘special sauce’ we’ve been seeking over the past year to enhance our agency capabilities for clients seeking strategic marketing consultation and program implementation,” says Richard Funess, president, Ruder Finn/Americas.
Mary Trudel, who heads the New York consumer marketing group at Ruder Finn, will serve as senior marketing strategist and will assist Seltzer in growing and maintaining key client relationships as well as attracting and servicing new business.
Says Seltzer, “Having worked in just about every job possible in a public relations agency, I asked myself the most critical question possible, ‘what would I most like to do?’ I came up with two answers: deliver stellar service to clients and build business. Out of all the major agencies, Ruder Finn is the one that has always stayed closest to the principle of senior executives personally staying committed to their clients’ business. By that standard, it’s the perfect fit for me.”
