SAN FRANCISCO — Shawn Dainas has left Polycom to take on the newly-created global head of corporate comms position at Riverbed Technology.

Dainas, who was promoted to VP of global corporate comms at Polycom earlier this year, has assumed the identical title at Riverbed - a publicly-traded networking and optimization company.

“The role doesn’t replace anyone, rather Riverbed Technology has up-leveled this position,” Dainas said. “It’s now a global role, and Riverbed and the new CMO (Kate Hutchison) is investing more in global corporate communications to raise the visibility of the company.”

Dainas reports into Hutchison who joined Riverbed, also from Polycom, in October. He reported into Hutchison at their previous company, as well. Before joining Polycom in 2011, Dainas worked at Yahoo and Sun Microsystems.

“It’s one of the best stories that hasn’t been told,” Dainas said of the 12-year-old Riverbed, which is expected to reach $1 billion in revenues this year. “I'm looking forward to driving greater awareness of Riverbed and its evolution, and helping to tell this story much more broadly through a variety of communications channels.”

Dainas is overseeing a team with responsibilities that include public relations, industry analyst relations, customer marketing, evangelism and social media, marketing communications, messaging, and internal communications. His first day was December 2.

Riverbed works with Connect Marketing as its agency. In recent months the company also hired Lori Cross as senior director of corporate communications from Symantec.
