WASHINGTON, D.C.—Financial services lobbyists Anne Urban and Sandra Swirski—both former partners at Venn Strategies—have formed a new lobbying and consulting practice, Urban Swirski & Associates. Both Urban and Swirski have been named as Top Ten Tax Lobbyists by the Tax Notes. In addition, Tax Notes named Urban as one of seven “new lobbyist power brokers” in a Democratic Congress.

Swirski previously worked as tax counsel for two senior Republican members of the Finance Committee, Sens. Al Simpson and Jack Danforth.  Urban worked for Democratic Senator Bob Kerrey as his legislative director and tax advisor as well as for then-Democratic Senator Joe Lieberman and earlier for Congresswoman Barbara Kennelly (D-CT).

Urban and Swirski will continue their work for such clients as MetLife, MassMutual, the Association of Small Foundations, the Coalition of Private Investment Companies, the Philanthropy Roundtable, Emerson and the Reinsurance Group of America.

Joining the firm as assistant vice presidents are Michael McHugh, formerly a policy aide to Senator Gordon Smith (R-OR) and Amy Takeuchi-Wanlass, formerly with Congressman Mike Thompson (D-CA).
