SPRING HOUSE, PA—Advanta Corp., the nation’s second largest issuer of business credit cards to the small business market, has named Philadelphia advertising and public relations executive Brian Tierney as vice chairman.  He will join chairman and CEO Dennis Alter and vice chairman and president Bill Rosoff in an expanded three-person office of the chairman.

Tierney launched Tierney Communications, now part of Interpublic Group, and earlier this year launched T2 Group.

Says Alter, “Brian is a nationally respected leader in brand building and marketing.  He’s a true entrepreneur, building from scratch what became one of the largest advertising and public relations agencies in the mid Atlantic. After selling the agency he was for several years a senior officer of a major advertising firm, so he understands the rigors of a publicly owned corporation. His unique background, management experience and leadership ability will make him a great addition to our team.”

In addition, former T2 Group partner Eric Hollreiser will join Advanta as chief communications officer. Hollreiser was most recently a senior vice president at the Walt Disney Company. Former T2 Group partners Maureen Garrity, Maxene Fernstrom and Alison Grove will join Advanta as Vice presidents and T2 will cease operations following a brief transition.

“Advanta has been a client of mine for more than a decade and I have tremendous respect for Dennis and Bill,” says Tierney.  “Advanta’s focus, expertise and operational excellence has made the company a leader in small business financial services. My partners at T2 and I are going to do all we can to build on that leadership and continue to increase shareholder value.”
