PHILADELPHIA—Brian Tierney, president and chief executive of advertising and public relations shop Tierney Communications, will take on the role of founder/chairman and hand over responsibility for day-to-day management of the firm—which is owned by Interpublic—to a team including ad executives Tony DeGregorio and Scott Franks and general manager of Tierney Public Relations Mary Stengel Austin, who will become president of Tierney Communications.

Tierney says he has “fulfilled the entrepreneurial dream” and that while he was offered a role by IPG in New York, he did not want to leave the Philadelphia region. “I am evaluating opportunities outside the world of advertising and public relations including some entrepreneurial initiatives, corporate boards, and one major philanthropic endeavor.”

Stengel Austin has worked with Tierney for 15 years and has been a partner since he established The Tierney Group in April of 1989.
