NEW YORK—DeVries Public Relations has hired Ovidio Torres to lead its healthcare practice. Torres, who brings more than 20 years of experience in medical and science communications to the firm, replaces Paul Oestreicher, who left last month to lead the New York healthcare practice at Hill & Knowlton.

“Ovidio brings us a wealth of leadership and experience in crafting powerful communications strategies and programming that informs, motivates and generates action among consumer and professional audiences alike,” says DeVries CEO Jim Allman.  “Additionally, his expertise as a senior counselor, practice builder and team mentor is a huge benefit to the agency and its clients.”

Prior to joining DeVries, Torres was executive vice president and managing partner at the Chamberlain Communications Group, where he worked for six years.  Previously, he was a senior managing director and deputy director of the U.S. health and pharmaceutical practice at Hill and Knowlton.

NEW YORK—Randi Cone has joined DeVries Public Relations as managing director in the home and lifestyle practice. She joins from DNA Cone Communications, where she served as president. Previously she was vice president of corporate communications at America Online, and senior vice president of corporate communications at King World, in addition to spending five years at Rogers & Cowan as executive vice president in charge of the television group.
