MINNEAPOLIS—TransFair USA, a nonprofit organization and third-party certifier of Fair Trade products in the United States, has selected Carmichael Lynch Spong as its agency of record. The firm will launch a strategic communications campaign focused on raising awareness of fair trade certified products and their role in alleviating third-world poverty.

Founded in 1998 and based in Oakland, Calif., TransFair USA is one of 20 members of Fairtrade Labeling Organizations International, a nonprofit umbrella organization based in Germany, that sets fair trade certification standards. TransFair USA audits and certifies transactions between U.S. companies offering fair trade products and their international suppliers to guarantee that farmers and workers are paid fair prices and wages and enjoy better working conditions.

“We’re excited to have Carmichael Lynch Spong on board because they’re passionate about our mission of enabling sustainable development and community empowerment through certifying and promoting Fair Trade Certified products,” says Anthony Marek, director of public relations and external communications for TransFair USA.
