WASHINGTON, D.C.—Adfero Group has expanded its homeland security practice with the addition of Ellen Howe as a vice president. Howe most recently served as assistant administrator for strategic communications and public affairs for the U.S. Transportation Security Administration, where she served as the agency's senior spokesperson and oversaw the creation of its "Evolution of Security" blog.
During her tenure at TSA, Howe worked to successfully brand and reposition the security agency, formed in the wake of 9/11, with a focus on authenticity and transparency in communications. She initiated TSA's first-ever Ad Council public education and awareness effort to increase understanding of aviation security procedures. Her team also executed both internal employee and external communication strategies for TSA’s Checkpoint Evolution, a culture shift to improve security by calming the checkpoint environment.
Prior to her service in the federal government, Howe owned a public affairs firm in the state of Washington for 11 years where she consulted on a variety of issues including natural resources, alternative energy, growth and development, and healthcare. She also managed Congressman Doc Hastings' political organization and ran his 2004 re-election campaign.
