NEW YORK—Burson-Marsteller has named David Sassoon as a managing director in its healthcare practice, a move the firm says will enhance its capabilities in medical device and biotechnology marketing communications and corporate positioning for healthcare companies.

In addition, Doris Astor and Steve Deitsch recently joined the practice as directors with specialties in pharmaceutical and OTC health care product marketing.

Sassoon moves to Burson-Marsteller from Rowland Communications Worldwide, where he served as senior counselor, working on the firm’s medical device business. He also handled strategic positioning for emerging biotechnology companies involved in tissue engineering, autologous cancer vaccine development and HIV genotyping. Prior to Rowland, he worked at Morgen-Walke Associates and on the corporate side for the managed care arm of New York Life Insurance Company.

Deitsch moves to B-M from Ruder Finn’s consumer healthcare group and has worked with clients including Pfizer, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Merck and Estee Lauder. Astor previously held positions of increasing responsibility at Ruder Finn and Presence, where she directed marketing communications programs for Pfizer, MedImmune and Novartis.
