INDIANAPOLIS—WellPoint, one of the nation’s leading health-benefits companies, has named Charles Young, a veteran of corporate communications roles at Tyco International and General Electric, as senior vice president of corporate communications. He replaces Ed West, who had announced his retirement earlier this year.

Before joining WellPoint, Young headed marketing and communications for Tyco International, which he joined a year after former chief executive Dennis Kozlowski left the company amid a major accounting scandal and where he helped lead a turnaround of the company’s reputation. Previously, he spent 14 years at GE, including managing communications for the company’s healthcare technology division.

West will stay on as a consultant with WellPoint until April of next year.
