WALTHAM, MA—U.S.-based technology public relations powerhouse Schwartz Communications will open a London office in October. Nigel Smith, a 14-year Schwartz veteran, will serve as managing director of the new office. The announcement follows the opening of the firm’s first European office, in Stockholm, last November.

The Swedish office has exceeded expectations, the firm says, with eight accounts and seven employees in the first nine months.   “We accelerated our plans to open a London office after our opening of an office in Stockholm last year proved to be so successful,” says Steve Schwartz, president. “We are now looking forward to extending our brand of bold, high-impact PR to the U.K., one of the world’s most dynamic, entrepreneurial and forward-looking economies.”

Smith joined Schwartz in 1993 and has worked on various medical device, diagnostic and biotechnology accounts, including Heart Technology, and Cyberonics, Heartstream, and with healthcare IT companies such as HPR (Health Payment Review) Phase Forward and Promedix. Prior to joining Schwartz, he was a marketing executive at LittlePoint Corporation, a pharmaceutical company that was acquired by SC Johnson and worked in the newsroom and promotions departments at WFXT-TV in Boston.

The London office will serve Schwartz clients from the U.S. clients and compete for local business.
