NEW YORK, April 30—The Weiser Group, selected earlier this year to provide public relations counsel to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, has opened an office in the nation’s capital. Joy Howell, founder of Cambridge Strategic Partners, a Washington-based public policy communications and telecommunications consulting firm, has agreed to merge her operation into Weiser and manage the Washington office.

Weiser, which is headquartered in Chicago, has offices in New York and Philadelphia and handles financial communications, strategic transactions and investor relations. The Washington office will focus on the conjunction of capital markets, public policy and strategic communications to serve clients in the financial services, technology and telecommunications industries.

The firm already serves several major clients in Washington, including the AICOA and the National Venture Capital Association. The firm has also worked with the Information Technology Industry Council, a leading technology trade association.

Before launching her own firm, Howell was a Clinton Administration appointee directing the Federal Communications Commission’s office of public affairs.  Previously, she was communications director for Senator Robert Torricelli.

Says Howell, “Corporations often face issues that have repercussions on Wall Street as well as Capitol Hill. With the considerable resources of The Weiser Group, we can offer the capability of addressing dual threats or maximizing dual opportunities for corporations facing major public policy and financial market challenges.”
