LONDON--Symantec is reviewing PR duties for its UK corporate and enterprise unit, the Holmes Report has learned.

It is understood that the security software giant invited a number of agencies to submit credentials, before shortlisted firms pitched over the past week.

The account, estimated at approximately £300K, has been handled by Speed Communications for the past two years. It is believed that the incumbent firm is defending its brief, although representatives from the agency declined to comment.

The review follows Symantec’s 2010 acquisition of VeriSign’s authentication business, which is handled by Weber Shandwick. Symantec is considered the market leader in terms of anti-virus software; almost two-thirds of its revenue is derived from enterprise software.

According to one source involved in the review, the company is hoping to shift perceptions beyond its well-established reputation for security products, to better compete with other major software players.

Symantec's press team did not respond to request for comment as this story went live.
