LONDON—Twitter is seeking UK agency support as the social media platform aims to step up consumer engagement.

The Holmes Report understands that several UK PR agencies are pitching for the account. Twitter has worked with M&C Saatchi PR since 2012, when it made the firm its first UK PR agency hire.

M&C Saatchi was initially hired to position Twitter as a 'people-focused brand', using the 2012 Olympics to 'socialise' TV viewing among consumers.

According to sources familiar with the situation, the new brief features a similar focus on consumer and lifestyle positioning. Twitter has launched several tools to target TV audiences, alongside efforts to boost its advertising services.

Despite slowing overall user growth, Twitter's UK revenues tripled in 2013 to £46m, and is expected to reach £180m by 2015. The figures suggest that the UK is becoming a key revenue generator for the company, accounting for more than 11% of global income last year.

Representatives from M&C Saatchi referred calls to Twitter, which did not respond to request for comment as this story went live,
