NORTHBROOK, IL— Astellas has appointed Karl Uhlendorf as communications and advocacy director, reporting to Margaret Long, vice president, business communications and advocacy, and responsible for strengthening the company's media and advocacy presence in Washington DC. Currently, Uhlendorf serves as the vice president, communications and public affairs, at the Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers of America. Before that, he worked at F-D-C Reports/Elsevier Business Intelligence, where he was editorial director of "The Pink Sheet" and other trade publications.

CHICAGO—Tribune Publishing has appointed Matthew Hutchison as senior vice president of corporate communications. He will lead the overall communications strategy for Tribune Publishing following its separation from Tribune Company, reporting to chief executive Jack Griffin. Prior to joining Tribune Publishing, Hutchison was vice president of corporate communications for CBS Interactive, and before that director of global consumer communications for Dell Computer.

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO—Envivio, a leading provider of software-based video processing and delivery solutions, has appointed Judith Coley as vice president, corporate and investor communications. Her experience includes marketing for PayPal Canada, and corporate communications and PR for Apple and AOL in the UK. Most recently, she was vice president marketing for Vuclip, a mobile video and media company, and served as director of integrated marketing for Adobe's (Macromedia) corporate, mobile and devices division.

TAMPA—Major League Baseball’s Tampa Bay Rays have hired Rafaela “Razi” Amador as senior director of corporate communications. She will work to increase the visibility of the organization’s business and community efforts through effective and strategic communication. Amador most recently served as an account director at Florida public relations firm Tucker/Hall and before that was vice president of public affairs and communications at the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce.
